Project Number 1
The increased hurricane activity is expected to be around for a while. Not having electricity is a hassle. Like many of our fellow Floridians, we purchased a generator. The generator is big enough to take care of a few important items but not big enough to run the whole house.
I don't like the idea of a network of tangled extension chords running into the house, and face it, it is not very convenient. I purchased an Automatic Transfer Switch. I installed it before the 2006 Hurricane season but I have not put it in operation yet.
Just plug in the chord from the Transfer Switch to the Generator, start the generator and the house is powered up.
Here is a picture of the new Transfer Switch on the left and the house panel on the right.
Here is the finished installation.
Project Number 2
I never liked the way the pool pump and piping was installed. It seemed to be installed in the middle of the yard. Mowing around it was difficult. When the pump went out, it was a good time to look at moving it against the house.
The job turned out to be tougher than I thought it would be. Lots of elbows. I also found out that when I cut the pipes below the ground, the pool started draining into the hole. Not a good thing.
I made sure to use unions at the equipment connections, so it will be easy to pull the system apart for repairs and replacements.
I am almost complete with this job. I need to get some Sod to lay down around this fine work.
As you can see, the pool pump was running as I refilled the pool to the normal level.
Sod was put down and it looks a lot better.

I installed a new light above the dining room table. It
matches the one above the entryway but is larger. This fixture has 15
lights, the one over the entry has 9.
It looks better and puts out more light than the bowl
light that we had before.
I had to clean up the smaller one since the new one made
it look bad.
