Another South Florida Spear fishing Club Dive
The air temperature was in the mid 80s and mostly sunny with a moderate wind out of the South East. Seas were 2 to 3 ft. The water temperature was 76 deg. F. The dives consisted of two drift dives on reefs approximately 1 mile offshore. We went out though Hillsboro Inlet and headed South between Pompano Beach and Lauderdale by the Sea.
I dove both dives with Niki in 75 to 85 ft. Visibility was 50 ft. or better at times at the bottom with a gentle North current. Saw a large Goliath Grouper which at first appeared to be a large rock on the bottom. The grouper allowed us to approach and we were able to tell it was a Jewfish or Goliath Grouper. The fish are protected so he was not able to come home for dinner.
We also saw several turtles and one approached very close and I got face to face with it. I shot one hogfish and Niki got two fish. After shooting the big hogfish back in December, I pass up the legal but small fish. Hopefully they will get bigger and I will get another opportunity.
During this dive, a boat tangled in our dive flag line and yanked the reel from Niki. She chased it but the idiots on the boat pulled the line up to the boat and the line got cut on the bottom of the boat. Niki lost her reel. Capt. McMillan recovered the battered flag. I shot up a lift bag and we completed the dive.

Jerry says, "I feel much better now."
Captain McMillan happy to have the divers and the boat back to the dock safe and sound.
